How considerate of them to “allow” what the Constitution of the United States has allowed from the beginning. After getting their tail feathers singed in national media exposure for their unconstitutional conduct, the city fathers are backtracking and “remain committed to religious freedom.” Well, being that they’re still part of the United States of America, it’s a jolly good thing.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – While tens of thousands of people are honking “no,” visiting their Congressmen and assembling in the nation’s capital and outside district offices to voice opposition to government-run health care today, the White House and Democratic leaders continue scheming about how to ram through their unpopular and costly plan.

“The favorite room in the White House for President Obama appears to be the back room,” said Phil Kerpen, Policy Director for Hands Off My Health Care, A Project of Americans for Prosperity®. “ The administration and Speaker Pelosi have gone beyond arm-twisting to pinning Democratic House members to the ground until they cry ‘uncle.’ And if that is ineffective, the White House has all but endorsed the so-called ‘Slaughter’ scheme, which would allow Obama’s trillion dollar government-run health care plan to pass in the House without a vote. This is not courage, Mr. President, but gutless procedural trickery .”

Several leading newspapers, such as The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal and Cincinnati Enquirer have criticized the “Slaughter Solution” and other back-handed means of expediting Obama’s health care plan. A McClatchy editorial today stated, “[U]sing such a dicey procedure to enact President Barack Obama’s — the most far-reaching social policy change in decades — could inflame a public that’s already annoyed at the legislation’s tortured path and disgusted with Congress.”

“What part of ‘no’ does the president not understand?” asked Kerpen. “ The American people clearly don’t want their health care system to be hijacked by an already bloated federal government to the tune of a trillion dollars. Yet, this administration is dead-set on getting its way just like a spoiled undisciplined child. Perhaps it’s time for a good spanking at the ballot box.”

Americans for Prosperity® (AFP) is a nationwide organization of citizen leaders committed to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity. AFP believes reducing the size and scope of government is the best safeguard to ensuring individual productivity and prosperity for all Americans. AFP educates and engages citizens in support of restraining state and federal government growth and returning government to its constitutional limits. AFP has more than 975,000 members, including members in all 50 states, and 30 state chapters and affiliates. More than 60,000 Americans in all 50 states have made a financial investment in AFP or AFP Foundation.

WASHINGTON, March 16 /Christian Newswire/ — Enough Is Enough (EIE), a non- profit organization dedicated to keeping children safe online, commends the Witherspoon Institute on the release of its new study, The Social Costs of Pornography: A Statement of Findings and Recommendations.

“Any child with unrestricted Internet access is just one click away from accidentally or intentionally viewing an abundance of free material, from soft-core pornography to prosecutable material depicting live sex shows, orgies, bestiality, violence and child sexual abuse,” commented EIE President and former Child Online Protection Act (COPA) Commissioner, Donna Rice Hughes. “For the past fifteen years, Internet pornography has invaded our homes and pornifed our culture. This important report serves as a wake-up call to parents and caring adults that no child or adult is immune to its damaging impact.”

The Witherspoon Institute report is the first multidisciplinary scholarly exploration in the Internet age to chronicle the undeniable evidence derived from social and neuro-science of the harmful impact and social costs of pornography, especially Internet pornography. Research and data included in the report found that the use of Internet pornography can have a range of damaging effects on human beings of all ages and of both sexes, affecting their happiness, their health, their productivity, their relationships with one another and their functioning in society, with an especially devastating impact on children and women.

“Pornography is the drug of the millennium and poses a real and present danger to the mental, emotional and physical health and safety of our children,” Rice Hughes said. “After having sacrificed an entire generation to the destructive impact of hard-core pornography, it’s time we all collectively say, Enough Is Enough!”

In response to the need to protect children from Internet dangers, EIE’s developed the Internet Safety 101 program to educate, equip and empower parents, educators and other caring adults to protect children online. The four-part DVD teaching series, accompanying workbook, and Web site – www.internetsafety101.org – addresses threats including pornography, sexual predators, cyberbullies. The high-definition video series includes poignant true stories from young children and teen victims of Internet pornography as well as critical advice and safety information from a variety of experts in the field of law enforcement, technology and psychology about how to keep kids safe in a pornified world.

The Pornography 101 videos from the series were launched today on YouTube at www.youtube.com/enoughisenough101

About Enough Is Enough: Enough Is Enough (EIE), a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, emerged in 1994 as the national leader on the front lines to make the Internet safer for children and families. Since then, EIE has continued to pioneer efforts to confront online pornography, child pornography, child stalking and sexual predation and other online threats to children by promoting a three-pronged, preventative approach to create and sustain a safe and rewarding Internet environment through working with the public, the technology industry and the legal community.

Much is happening in the emergent church world these days. To stay on top of what is happening is a challenge. Tony Jones is the poster boy for the new “progressive” churches (the new term for emergent), and he recently hosted a conference called “Theology After Google.” In Tony Jones’ world, everything must change and old landmarks must be thrown out. In his world of smoke and mirrors, landmarks are unnecessary. It’s “Wiki-theology.” Rather than resting on the bedrock truths of Holy Scripture, you can enter a spiritual world of ever-changing electronic graffiti where anybody who wants to spray paint a newly crafted theological “truth” on the wall is welcome. Wiki-theology, indeed.

Ken Silva at Apprising Ministries has the unsavory task of tracking these emergent trends. He has a raft of articles on the “Theology After Google” conference that are helpful in tracing the latest methods of the emergent blind who lead the blind. In this article, you can see video of Mr. Jones unveiling his new approach to theology in front of his attendees. In this piece, Ken Silva describes the non-gospel these men represent. Tony Jones is a spiritual rebel, and he is training others in spiritual rebellion under the guise of a new, more relevant approach to Christian theology. It is theology, but be warned. There is nothing Christian about it.

Washington, DC, March 15, 2010 –The 17,000 members of the Christian Medical Association [www.cmda.org] today urged Members of the House of Representatives to vote against the controversial healthcare overhaul bill approved by the Senate, H.R. 3590.

In a letter [www.cmda.org/hr3590letter] to all Members of the House, CMA CEO David Stevens, MD noted that “The CMA strongly opposes this legislation because it fails to provide strong conscience protections for healthcare professionals, allows direct federal funding of elective abortions in community health centers and allows federal funds to subsidize health plans covering abortions.”

CMA has led a national coalition of 50 organizations, Freedom2Care [www.Freedom2Care.org], to fight for conscience rights for healthcare professionals.

Dr. Stevens noted in the letter, “A national survey of faith-based physicians shows that the failure to protect the rights of healthcare professionals to decline to participate not only in abortion but also in other morally controversial procedures and prescriptions, may cause up to 95 percent of faith-based physicians to leave medicine. Since faith-based physicians provide much of the care for poor patients and those in medically underserved areas, their exodus would lead to a national crisis of access to care of catastrophic proportion.”

Dr. Stevens also wrote, “The CMA strongly supports funding for community health centers, and many of our physicians work full-time, part-time and on a volunteer basis caring for the poor. But we cannot support federal funding for abortions that will result in yet more abortions while violating the clear will of the American people who do not want their tax dollars used to pay for them.”

On the issue of federal subsidy of abortions, Dr. Stevens wrote, “Such funding, however cleverly designed to obscure the result, clearly violates the longstanding Hyde amendment and related laws. Such funding also violates the President’s oft-repeated pledge to maintain the status quo on abortion funding. Besides the obvious moral wrong of funding abortions, this policy will also have negative economic consequences. Incentivized by new insurance subsidies, abortionists will simply raise prices and increase their profits. Increased abortions will rob the country of much of the younger generation that otherwise would help avert the financial strain of a top-heavy older population.”

The letter also noted “government intrusion into physician-patient decision making and the allocation of medical resources, the absence of meaningful tort reform that is desperately needed to prevent the loss of some of our best physicians—especially obstetricians and gynecologists, and the lack of bipartisan and public support that should undergird any legislation of this magnitude.”

Dr. Stevens urged Members to “pursue a new bipartisan, measured and focused approach to true healthcare reform. Seven key principles our members look for in healthcare reform include cost containment, quality assurance, access for the poor, economic fairness, ethical protection, prevention focus and personal responsibility.”

March 11, 2010 // Washington, DC –
A Constitutional Amendment introduced by U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Michigan, to
protect the parent-child relationship has reached 130 co-sponsors in the House.

“Members of Congress and their constituents are increasingly seeing the potential for
interference into the parent-child relationship from judges, government and international
organizations,” Hoekstra said. “Nothing – aside from cases of abuse and neglect – should
insert itself between parents and their children.”

The Parents’ Rights Amendment (H.J.Res.42) would state explicitly in the U.S.
Constitution that parents have a fundamental right to raise their children as they see fit
while protecting against abuse and neglect. Threats to the parent-child relationship
include potential Senate ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“At a time when many are wondering if Congress is even listening, it is encouraging to
see 130 congressional representatives standing up for a principle that limits government
intrusion into our lives,” says constitutional lawyer Michael Farris, president of
ParentalRights.org. “Like the vast majority of Americans, these 130 representatives
recognize the vital role parents play in protecting and providing for children. Parental
rights must be preserved against encroachments of international law and changes in
Supreme Court ideology, both of which are very real concerns today.”

More information on the Parents’ Rights Amendment and the list of co-sponsors can be
viewed at www.parentalrights.org.

It appears that young people today are slightly less inclined to support the legal right to kill babies in the womb. The Christian Post reports:

In 2009, only 24 percent of Americans aged 18 to 29 said abortion should be legal under any circumstances, a drop from 28 percent in the year 2000 and 36 percent in 1990.

Even compared to 30- to 64-year-olds, the young cohort is now less likely to support abortion, the Gallup survey on Friday revealed.

Young adults (23 percent) are also most likely to say abortion should be illegal in all circumstances compared to their older counterparts, including those aged 65 and older (21 percent) – who have been the most conservative in abortion views. Read more here.

Listen as Rep. Stupack reports on remarks by Harry Waxman who wants you and me to fund the slaughter of babies through abortion in the health care bill. Representative Waxman, we’re not paying for child murder. Get that through your thick head. This kind of moral evil is what America elected to Congress–men who want the nation to fund the killing of preborn children with their taxes as “health care.” 51 million dead children, Americans, and the blood continues to flow.

The town of Gilbert, Arizona must have lots of extra tax money to throw away on legal fees. What other reason could there be for their blatantly unconstitutional ruling banning all church meetings in homes? The Alliance Defense Fund is on the case:

GILBERT, AZ — Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed an appeal Wednesday with the town of Gilbert’s zoning Board of Adjustment to overturn a decision banning churches from meeting, holding Bible studies, or having any other activities in private homes. The pastor of the seven-member Oasis of Truth Church received a cease-and-desist letter ordering him to terminate all religious meetings in his home, regardless of their size, nature, or frequency.

“Christian church groups shouldn’t be singled out for discrimination and banned from meeting in their own homes,” said ADF Litigation Counsel Daniel Blomberg. “The interpretation and enforcement of the town’s code is clearly unconstitutional. It bans 200,000 Gilbert residents from meeting in their private homes for organized religious purposes—an activity encouraged in the Bible, practiced for thousands of years, and protected by the First Amendment.”

In November 2009, Oasis of Truth Church was ordered in a letter from a Gilbert code compliance officer to stop church meetings in Pastor Joe Sutherland’s home, based on the town’s Land Development Code. The officer was not responding to a complaint, but to signs he came across near Sutherland’s home about the meetings.

The town contends that, under its zoning code, churches within its borders cannot have any home meetings of any size, including Bible studies, three-person church leadership meetings, and potluck dinners. This ban is defended based upon traffic, parking, and building safety concerns. However, nothing in its zoning code prevents weekly Cub Scouts meetings, Monday Night Football parties with numerous attendees, or large business parties from being held on a regular basis in private homes. In fact, the zoning code explicitly allows some day cares to operate from homes.

Notably, the church only met for a few hours a week in members’ homes, and would rotate to different homes weekly. Further, the church was quite small, consisting of just seven adult members, including three married couples, and their four children.

ADF attorneys argue in their appeal that 1) the town’s zoning code does not authorize such a broad ban on church meetings in homes; 2) the Constitution’s Free Exercise Clause doesn’t permit a ban on church meetings where all other meetings are permitted; 3) Arizona’s Free Exercise of Religion Act (FERA) protects “Arizona citizens’ right to exercise their religious beliefs free from undue government interference;” and 4) the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) prevents zoning officials from singling out churches for discriminatory treatment. Blomberg adds that “the First Amendment’s Free Speech Clause prevents the town from stopping the church from holding its meetings on the public sidewalk outside the pastor’s home, yet the town won’t allow him to hold the same meetings just a few feet away in the privacy of his own living room.”

Sutherland stopped the home meetings in December and requested a clarification of the restrictions from the town zoning administrator the next month. The initial informal response was followed in February by a zoning interpretation letter–offered at a $305 fee–confirming the alleged basis of the ban. The church currently holds its Sunday meetings at a local school, where it can only meet for one weekly service due to rental costs.

ADF is a legal alliance of Christian attorneys and like-minded organizations defending the right of people to freely live out their faith. Launched in 1994, ADF employs a unique combination of strategy, training, funding, and litigation to protect and preserve religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family.
