The Christian Post reports on a megachurch pastor who defends his participation at the Glenn Beck rally this past weekend. The pastor says it’s all OK to support Beck’s spiritual agenda (Beck is a Mormon) because Glenn referenced the atonement. But Brannon Howse of Worldview Weekend is pointing out the spiritual confusion sown by Glenn Beck. A biblically and doctrinally illiterate evangelical public that is concerned about the direction of our nation was ripe for the delusion. Not even cardinal doctrine seems to matter any longer. Brannon will be discussing the rally more on his radio program today, heard live at 1pm Central at www.vcyamerica.com. Here is Glenn Beck’s testimony about his conversion to Mormonism.
Here is Dr. Russell Moore on God, the Gospel and Glenn Beck.
The decision by Liberty University to invite Fox’s Glenn Beck as commencement speaker is making waves. It should. It is both revealing and prophetic that American evangelical Christians would have to look to a member of the Mormon church for moral and spiritual leadership. At a time when the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be held up as the only sure cure for our nation’s woes, officials at Liberty University, like so many others, have chosen to promote a therapeutic moral deism instead. Rather than bring a faithful preacher and Christian leader to issue the challenge of a lifetime to these graduating young people, Liberty offers a Mormon talk show host.
As admirable and needed as Glenn Beck’s crusade for our nation’s Constitution is, the lesson that should have been learned by graduates at Liberty University is that our true battle is against the enemy of our souls. He is the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. The ultimate answer to the ravages of the enemy in our culture will never be the forcing of a public display of morality. The only true answer is found in the forgiveness of sins available through Jesus Christ, the Lamb for sinners slain. Glenn Beck cannot offer that because his church preaches another Jesus.
The following is a press release from a Christian group that also objects to the invitation of Glenn Beck to Liberty University. God is showing, by this invitation, how truly bankrupt American Christianity really is.
MADISON, Wisc., April 24 /Christian Newswire/ — In today’s confusing times, we need clear Biblical messages. By allowing Glenn Beck, a Mormon, to speak at Liberty University’s Commencement, Liberty’s message becomes off-focus.
According to the Liberty University’s website, Glenn Beck will address Liberty University’s Class of 2010 Commencement on Saturday, May 15. He will be joined by popular Baptist preacher Dr. Paige Patterson.
Beck, a popular FOX NEWS announcer, is a well-known Mormon. In 1999, Beck and his wife became members of the Mormon Church after his daughter recommended Mormonism. Before this, he took a Yale University theology class called “Early Christology,” but dropped out.
While Beck presents many factual presentations on his popular FOX NEWS show, he should not be allowed to speak at a university that demands its students to believe that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
A commencement program should feature strong Christians who have weathered the storms of life to become leaders in their respective fields. This is what the school should be demanding of its students. A commencement speaker should be what the school desires their students to eventually become.
Christians should have active political stands, especially during these uncertain times where politicians seem to lack direction. However, we need to put Jesus Christ first and our political stands will follow.
ChristianInvestigator.com’s Steve McConkey says, “We are not to put politics first and the Lord second. If this country is to have another revival, we need to get back to the basics, just like an athlete who has to go back to the basics to learn proper skills. We join Glenn Beck in many of his viewpoints, however, we do not endorse his Mormon beliefs.”

The four athletes whose testimonies were distributed won 3 golds and 2 silvers.

Evangelicals and Mormons prayed and worshiped together at the Mormon Tabernacle “Revival Service” on September 13, 2009. Exactly what god they worshiped remains unclear in that Mormons continue to teach and believe that Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer. Evangelist Nick Vujicic reportedly “challenged Mormon orthodoxy” and gave an invitation of sorts for those who wanted a relationship with Jesus. But isn’t it essential that we first have to define who Jesus is before people make emotional (that’s the term used in the article) decisions to have a relationship with him? Not every Jesus talked about today is the Jesus of the Bible! Certainly not the Jesus taught by the Mormons. Read of this blasphemous event being hailed as “historic” at Christianity Today online. When Ravi Zacharias and several others went to the Mormon Tabernacle a few years back for what was termed an Evening of Friendship, I predicted it would only be a short time until evangelicals found no substantive reason not to embrace Mormonism. That time is here.
