You know that things have hit a new low when celebrity pastors no longer bother to get dressed or comb their hair before addressing the world. YouTube has a clip of Pastor Ed Young delivering his fascinating plans for the week while in his bathrobe and featuring bed-head hair. When you are that important, you don’t actually have to bother to put clothes on or comb your hair. The world is waiting for your next tweet, your next video blog, your next sentence. They want to know what you ate for breakfast, what digestive disturbances you are having, and what your sleep attire looks like. Tommy Tenney tweeted about how “brave” Ed Young was to go online in his bathrobe. No Tommy, that’s not bravery, that’s called narcissism.
Looks like Young may be starting a whole new trend. Webcams in bedrooms might replace plexiglass pulpits soon, actually. Cutting-edge pastors can read their borrowed sermons while wearing their Sponge Bob jammies, and congregations can stay at home in their own jammies to watch it online. Remember that you read it here first.

It is probably not the most tactful way of doing things. I thought at one point, I could smell the bad breath coming through my screen.
The only word that keeps going through my mind is, ARROGANCE.
I couldn't get past the first minute of that….gross!
Who's this “we?”
I kept wondering that too. I beleive that would be me, myself, and I.
Wow i go to FC and glad to hear that the jet is being put to good use. Be nice to see him on the pulpit instead of the video taped messages, again. Why bother going to church this weekend. Hmmm.
From his mansion . . . with a Mont Blanc pen in hand . . . on his private Falcon jet . . . he is going to put “boots on the ground in Haiti”?
What kind of boots?
Testoni? Or John Lobb?
Amazing.
Perhaps he can feed a leper with the crumbs that fall from his table.
This and a woman who uses the word s**t on her blog. All in one morning.
I LOVE this new cind uf xtianity. NOT!!
The photo of Ed Young that is posted with the title of this article looks like he's either been airbrushed or has had some sort of cosmetic surgery.
Great comment. Hedonism is so creative it can look humanitarian when it so chooses. Perhaps next time they could roll the video with him and his wife under the covers as he tells everyone how he they will zoom into Nigeria and play peacemakers.
Does it strike anyone else how ironic and paradoxical it is when they fly from the poverty stricken nation of Haiti to a health and wealth church without missing a beat? Perhaps no other nation in history has been used as a golden goose by profiteers like the nation of Haiti. And when you add up all the evangelistic numbers the entire nation has been saved 100 times!
Coming next year: A live video update direct from the smallest room in the pastor's house. Multi-tasking at its finest!
Noticed on Ed Young's blog that he had a twitter update stating he had spent a wonderful evening with “pastor” Steve Munsey. When will the SBC step in and denounce this joker?
What did you expect from the son of a two time SBC president? At least it appears he shaved. Judge not the outward appearance, but the words and actions.
Wearymom2: “reformed” says: Over 200 posts removed by Schlueter, including the one I just posted under Rick Warren. Won't answer questions about MacArthur or Manhattan Declaration
I'm going to email Mr. Young and tell him that it would be better to brush his hair and put on some pants and a shirt, then do the video. Oh, and to put away all his “nice” stuff… For the sake of all you bloggers.
How about for the sake of simple courtesy to his viewers? Are people not worthy of more respect than that? Grooming is a sign of respect for others, period. Anyone who thinks that he doesn't need to show such courtesy, particularly as a supposed minister of the Gospel, is not worth listening to.
Thank you for your response to me on the other topic. I think sometimes, when we feel very passionate about something, we can come across as arrogant to others perhaps not realizing it. It is difficult communicating in writing alone because people cannot see our facial expressions or hear our tone of voice…words on a page are not always adequate…never as good as one on one face to face communication. We can be easily be offended and offend each other…perhaps not really intending to do that at all. I have learned a good deal from your posts, reformed, and was sorry that they were removed. I have been helped by your informative responses on various topics here. You have caused me to think more critically and research more thoroughly on several issues…MD being one of them. I have appreciated your contribution to this blog.
I do also understand Ingrid's sensitivity to what she may perceive as personal attack as she is often the target of people who dislike her bold/faithful stand on so many issues. I appreciate the strong stance she has taken time and again. I credit her as being the one (through Slice) who opened my eyes and helped me find my way out of a seeker friendly church. I think she is very battle weary at this point in her life and my heart goes out to her. I guess what I am trying to say is that I highly value both of you and have learned much from both.
As ex-Catholics, I think you and I will have a greater awareness and understanding of what the MD is really all about. Because of our experiences within of the false Catholic church, we feel passionate now to inform/warn our fellow Christians. It can be disconcerting when we feel we aren’t understood or taken seriously. But I think we have to understand, too, that Christians who come from Protestant backgrounds WILL have a harder time seeing and perceiving the danger. Though it may take longer, they will see it in time …of that I am confident.
What concerns me most right now though is the tone on this board lately….my own tone in particular. I had to go before the Lord this morning and repent of what I felt was at times a snarky tone in my response to Amy…and probably to others sometimes as well. We WILL disagree with other believers sometimes…and sometimes we will respond inappropriately to others…or them to us. We truly all need God's help to keep the dialogue 'filled with grace and seasoned with salt.' I did not like some of the curt responses made to you recently…I thought they were hurtful, unChrist-like and would have been better left unsaid…they did not edify or build up anyone.
Just a thought to all who may be reading this. Who am I? Do you really know much about me? I could be a little elderly lady who is homebound, wrecked with chronic pain, sitting here in a wheelchair all day with very little real companionship.….so I come one this and other blogs to read and share with other like-minded fellow Christians. No, I am not that lady…but I could be. We never know who we are talking to on these blogs…what their lives entail…what hurts or sorrows may be weighing them down on a daily basis. So…I guess what I am saying to myself today after a time of repentance and reflection this morning on my own behavior here is …let us love one another, forbear one another, forgive as Christ forgave us. (Col 3: 13) Even when we passionately disagree, may God help us to do so with His grace and in love.
I sincerely hope you will continue to post here. I will miss your contribution if you leave. But if you decide to move on, may God b!less and keep you always. Perhaps we will meet up again on another blog one day. Godspeed
This honestly grossed me out! And I don't think that is “bed hair”–I think it's been carefully styled to LOOK like bed hair!
His appearance and demeanor overshadows his words. His expression is like: “Look how cool I am in my bathrobe and mussy hair!” I watched just a minute or so, then started typing this, scrolling down so I did not have to look at him while I was typing.
Grow up, Mr. Young!!!!
