You may remember Ed Young, a pastor who made national headlines for dragging a mattress on “stage” at his church and telling his parishioners to “have more sex.” Now that same pastor is making headlines for different reasons. It appears that mega-pastors need mega-luxury as well.

I Peter 5:2 “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but wiilingly, noy for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lord's over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” The Lord Jesus gave us an example to walk in His step's and this man is not.
Even realtors proclaim “disclosure, disclosure, disclosure” before “location, location, location”. Mega-church pastors are akin to people who move to large cities to get lost in the crowds, where “disclosure” is replaced by anonymity. The philandering, lavish lifestyles, secrecy, hypocrisy and perversion of these pastors who DO LORD IT OVER their flocks shamelessly, are a perfect fit for the goats who lap up his titillating prohetic noises. Perhaps you too have tried, upon waking up from the inertia-induced tripe coming from these types, to inquire of a mega/purpose-driven/emergent/reformed “campus church” about their financial statements, pastoral compensation/retirement plan, assets, spin-off corporations, French jets, Caribbean/world vacations, and sales of “intellectual property rights” in your hometown. You might also dare to ask what, if any, ministries your (and the Lord's) money have gone to other than the pastor's 10,000 sq.ft. mansion and the expansive church campus buildings. You might be surprised at the reaction and/or cover-up. In defense, though, Benny Hinn has a jet parked somwhere. It's not illegal, just something covered up in a hangar out of view, so that you won't be tempted. It's only these types that can handle the big bucks and not get jaded. Us little people don't have the spiritual maturity yet; we're a work in progress!
Was anyone really expecting this spray-on tanned, movie screen-sized veneer-toothed, high school-inspired fashion (machine-worn jeans & shirt tail out of the V-neck sweater) wearing, late-in-life-learned hip lingo (in every sentence) using, middle-aged, wanna-be gigolo, pervert with unearned loads of cash, to be riding around in a Taurus? When all of his “contributors” are done with their: “Can you believe he did this to us” drama, they'll try to buy their salvation from some other sin-justifying “mack-daddy” pimp. Nothing's been revealed to them that they didn't already know.
Call me cynic, but I don't think pastors should be salaried. Too much temptation. Now this dude is far from temptation. He is quite simply fat and drunk with sin. However, we ought to take this extreme example as a warning to them much more moderate in their habits and lusts. And perhaps the pastor is not infact licentious. But the temptation is still there, especially here in the Americas. So then, when did we loose sight of the Pulpit as a high ministry for some lucrative career option? Is this tripe taught and encouraged in the Seminaries!? Why is it encouraged in the congregation!? If ever I take a Parsonage, ne'er will I take a Pulpit's Paycheck! Why are pastors these days missing the point! Its not about them! It is about Christ, Him Crucified, His Holy Word, and all praises to HIM!!!
Soli Deo Gloria
Capuchin style contemplative perhaps as well? Not sure. If this circus church ringleader tips that way, he might take up hairshirts/cilices/disciplines on stage to “biblically identify more closely to Christ in His sufferings”. And if not him, then the likes of Driscoll, Noble, Scazzero, Warren, and those coming to Radicalis or the Slosh Fest.
Mattress pastor hosted a panel discussion on adultery, progressive revelation, affairs, internet searching for extramarital affairs, polyamory with both sexes, and the need to look beyond the constraints of the seventh commandment: http://abcnews.go.com/nightline/faceoff#atabc. You may also want to check out the statement of beliefs of this “undisclosed Southern Baptist affiliate church”, especially the nuanced, but error filled part about Man: http://www.fellowshipchurch.com/beliefs. No mention here about the fall of Adam, the sin nature, total depravity, the solas, or even the fundamental “by faith through grace”. Note also that the URL is a .com, not a .org, showing that the focus is clearly for profit, in spite of the alleged tax exempt status. Wikipedia has an expanded overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fellowship_Church, in which it notes that once a seeker is ready, he or she has a choice of outdoor baptistry or heated jacuzzi. When you've reached that new life (and given up the old), you just don't ask for a financial accounting statement. And if you had asked for it before this point, you would have been shown the door, considered to have had a life changing experience of being unredeemably lost in the sins of unsubmissiveness, disobedience, criticism, and judgmentalism.
Woo, JSRose, that's impressive and right on target!
You only left out “highly airbrushed.” I just saw a REAL photo of him and he looks 20 years older than that photo his church uses on their website.
So sex is a bad word now?
Benmordecai: 1Cor.13:11. Go one layer down, and you'll find what's hiding under the mattress of this pastor. Sex cannot be a bad word since it was created by God. Its perverted misuse, especially by a pastor whose focus is on bringing in the dollars from crowds with an itch, is unequivocally condemned by God. Do the research; the internet makes it so easy!
This man and his so-called theology are horrible.
