Congressman Mike Rogers answers that question.

Something else you may not know is that the federal government will be exempt from this program so it will not affect anyone that is in Washington voting for it. Turn off the idiot tube and spend a little time on the Internet and find out for yourself what is happening to this country. Another part of the problem is that most people listen to the mainstream media which in all but name is the mouthpiece of government. This country is quickly becoming run by the elite government rather then what it was intended to be, that is “We the People” and unfortunately this is the change some of you may have voted for. It may be too late to do anything now because if these types of things are put into law it will not be easy to take them out. Majority Democratic leaders are willing to throw anyone under the bus to get these changes in place, which will cause the economic situation to get worse and in turn make you either revolt or rely even more on the government to do everything for you. They will become the elite and powerful and there will no longer be a middle class. They will redistribute the wealth by taking over all private business and spread the wealth how they see fit, that is to themselves first, then everyone else.
If you listen to the Conservative mouth pieces of this country none of this would be new. I suggest you start with talk shows like Mark Belling, Viki McKenna, Janet Porter, Shawn Hannity, WVCY's Crosstalk program, Rush Limbaugh, etc. many of them have independent views and also don't necessarily represent any political party. I don't cling to every word they say either but filter what they talk about and look for myself. Open your eyes people before it's to late. And call your Senators, your Congressmen this website will help, all you do is put your zip code in and you get contact info http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml and the White House (Comments: 202-456-1111 Switchboard: 202-456-1414)
and let them know your feelings.
Would anyone care to tell me why we here in the US should NOT have guaranteed and affordable health care for EVERYONE?
We are the ONLY – I repeat – the ONLY country in the industrialized world that does NOT have a public option to provide health care to those that cannot afford to buy it from the gangsters in the insurance boardrooms.
On top of that we have the MOST EXPENSIVE health care system in the entire world – and it all comes down to GREED – AMERICAN GREED!
I hear people talking about preserving their FREEDOM OF CHOICE, and in the next breath, they say that government should be forced to take the same as they are giving us.
What a load of nonsense! Congress and even the President have the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and it is NOT entirely free to them, NOR fully funded by their employer which by the way is US – yes WE THE PEOPLE!
If I was working for GM or Citigroup or Exxon Mobil and my employer funded a generous portion of my health care, I would not want to change to the public option either.
CHOICE – if you want it or need it – get on board, but if you don't – then keep what you have.
If the conservative answer is to keep things just the way they are, then I would like the conservatives to kindly throw their bibles away and stop being hypocrites. Leaving more than 50 million Americans with no health care at all and bankrupting many of the rest with medical bills is NOT CHRISTIAN in anyone's books.
There is NOTHING wrong with expecting the wealthy to make a bit more of a contribution to society and if you consider that to be “redistribution of wealth” – then so be it. They got that wealth in many cases from those of us that they are now trying to DENY decent health care.
The love of money….. you gotta love this “Christian” country.
I will tell you. Because health insurance is not a right. The constitution was founded on the natural rights given by God to man. We were endowed by our Creator with the rights to life, liberty, and the opportunity to pursue what is best for ourselves and our families. God did not give us a natural right to premium health care. We have the opportunity to attain it for ourselves, just as we have the right to pursue a promotion at work, or the opportunity to buy a new house if we work hard. But no one is entitled to a high paying job or a luxurious house any more than they are entitled to health insurance.
Don't compare America to other countries. You're absolutely right, America is different, and that's what makes us American. The American way is OPPORTUNITY, not entitlement. If you like Europe or Canada's health care better, move there.
I didn't say health INSURANCE is a right – I said health CARE is a right and God did give man the RIGHT to LIFE, which by definition, means the RIGHT to good health without which, life ends sooner than later. Have you forgotted that Jesus healed the sick and didn't charge them a dime?
I also never used the words “premium health care” – you did. Probably because that's what you're used to while you deny those that cannot afford any health care at all. What a good Christian attitude.
I'm amazed that you refuse to compare America to other countries when America constantly compares other countries to itself and attempts to impose it's values on those countries. Perhaps the fact that people like you have this high and mighty attitude is the reason for the mess we're in with two wars, a ruined economy, and the whole world laughing at us fighting about whether to improve our sick failure of a health care system!!!
Tell me – if we don't compare ourselves to others, how do we know whether we're better or worse than they are?
The American way is “opportunity”???? How's that working for the 10% unemployed buddy, the 44,000 that die each year because they cannot afford health care, the millions that have lost their homes and the millions more that will go bankrupt this year because of medical bills??? Oh, I forgot – they're not “ENTITLED”……
I should not have to move to Europe or Canada – I'm supposed to be living in a Christian country where Jesus would have healed us by now if we were truly following him instead of the “American way of OPPORTUNITY”.
Your rhetoric is false in its assumption that God gave us the right to life. God gave us life and the right to choose how we live our life. Now our constitution does give us certain unalienable rights which are rights that no one can take from you, ex. no one has the right to take your life…
Jesus was not the/a government; He was God incarnate and is the Creator of all, the Beginning and the End. He didn't need there money. In fact when He did need money He created a fish that would have a coin in its mouth, had an Apostle blindly cast a hook and line in the water, catch the fish remove the coin that He knew would be there, with amount needed and paid His and the Apostle's taxes. See “Matt. 17:24-27″
Right now I don't have health insurance because I just started a new job and haven't become eligible for my companies H.I. I choose not to take any health insurance because it's my right to not choose right now. If the government passes this socialized H.I. I would be heavily fined for not participating in it. I try to eat right and exercise. If I have an unseen accident or illness and don't have HI I know God will provide what I need. I don't want the government to determine that.
I also do not think my money should provide health insurance for someone that refuses to take care of there bodies by smoking, drinking alcohol, doing illicit drugs, being over weight, and eating unhealthy foods which is also including myself.
Christians don't compare themselves to others they compare themselves to a Holy God and thus fall way short. This is why they/we all need redemption, forgiveness of our sin/sin’s, and a Savior who took upon Himself to die for us even death on a cross, the cruelest way of death known to man. Christ was that one, fully God, and fully man who died, then rose from the dead so that we would have life eternal with Him, and if we accept Him and trust that if we do His will, He will provide all we need.
You have been told that we live in a Christian nation. I don't, in fact I believe the remnant is very small.
Richard… I'm shocked.
God gave us the right to life by giving us life and forbidding anyone to take that life away from us. Don't twist words or logic. We have a RIGHT to life, which means we have a RIGHT to healhcare, without which, our lives would probably end sooner rather than later.
Whether Jesus needed the money or not is NOT the point. He gave us the example that the love of money is the root of all evil. And what we have in our healthcare system is an undeniable love of money!
You will NOT be fined for not participating in the government public option, you will be fined for placing a burden on taxpayers because SOMEONE has to pay if you need a triple bypass and you CHOSE not to have insurance.
If you don't think your money should contribute to health care for someone less fortunate, then why should someone else contribute to your healthcare because you choose NOT to have cover?
I also feel sorry for you, because your God is looking down on you and wondering what happened to your Christian charity. Jesus did not question how those that he healed had lived their lives.
I said I'm SUPPOSED to be living in a Christian nation – but you're right – the remnant is very small, and it DOES NOT include those in Congress that are trying to DENY us the RIGHT to health care.
Perhaps that's why God is NOT providing all we need.
You're the one twisting words and more over Gods word. You take the word out of context and try to make it say something it doesn't. I will pray that someday you will be enlightened by Gods Word. I have nothing more to say to you except, I hope the best for you.
Maybe this will serve to wean Christians from doctors and drugs before the beast system comes in. What will we do when we have to depend totally on God because we can no longer buy, sell or trade?
Pray for real tangible faith.

Why thank you Richard. How condescending of you to hope the best for me.
The ten commandments say “Thou shalt not kill, right? Sounds very much like a God given right to life to me.
Samuel 25:6 – Say to him: 'Long life to you! Good health to you and your household! And good health to all that is yours!
Sounds pretty much like health is also a RIGHT, don't you think?
1 Thessalonians 4:3 – It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; 6and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.
Sounds pretty much like we SHOULD compare ourselves to others in order to know that we are better than heathen?
And somehow, I don't think these things are out of context? Does anyone else?
I am quite sufficiently enlightened by God's word to know that I need to love my neighbor, and not deprive him of his right to life, health and dignity.
The only “elite and powerful” that you as a Christian should be concerned with is God. It's not your place to pass judgement on Governments, your fellow man or anyone else, nor to deprive others of something that is a God given right.
It is I that must hope that God enlightens you to the fact that Jesus died so that we may live.
And that my friend, means health care! Affordable health care available for all.
